Once upon a time in a land far away (actually August 2015 in Sabi Sands, South Africa), a mother leopard was resting, but very vigilant, as her cub was playing with a piece of hide on another limb. Down below, pacing and watching was a bad, ugly hyena.
While playing, her baby cub slipped and fell to the ground with a thud. The hyena immediately charged for the cub, but the mother, in the blink of an eye, sprung from the tree on top of the hyena. What followed, it seemed to all observers, was a noisy, violent fight that left the bloody hyena limping away.
The cub scampered up another tree and was safe while the mother leopard took to a tree lying on the ground and stared down the hyena like she was daring the hyena to come any closer. The entire incident took less time than it took you to read this.
